今天来介绍几个短语。都是含有“book”的。
对于”book”一词，印象中使用比较多的意思应该是名词”书”，动词”预定”等等。其实，它与一些介词或者动词搭配可以组成很多短语，而意思是完全不同的。
以下是些常见的：
1. a closed / sealed book
完全不懂的学科/谜
Philosophy is a closed book to me.
我对哲学一窍不通。
2. an open book
尽人皆知的事
Your life in this town has been an open book － perhaps too open.
你在本镇的生活完全是公开的－也许太公开了。
3. be in sb’s good/bad/black books
为某人所（不）喜欢、受宠
He is always in the teacher’s good books.
他一直深得老师的欢心。
4. bring sb. to book
责问、斥责、审问
Don’t worry. He will be brought to book for his wickedness in the future.
别担心。将来他会为自己的恶行而受到谴责的。
5. by one’s book
按照惯例、按常规
We should go by the book.
我们应该照章办事。
6. hit the (one’s) books
做功课、用功
If you want to pass the exam, you’d better hit the books now.
你如果想考试及格，最好现在就开始用功。
7. know/read like a book
对……了如指掌
After so many years, I can read her like a book.
这么多年了，我对她了如指掌。
8. throw the book at sb
把罪名加在……身上、严惩
If you didn’t plead guilty, they would throw the book at you.
如果你不认罪，他们会重重的惩罚你。

毫无根据
How can you punish the children without book?
